Download the October 2012 Urban Street Design Guide Overview (High Resolution)
The Urban Street Design Guide takes a bold step to write a new blueprint for American city streets, based on the principle that streets are spaces for people and commerce as well as arteries for traffic.
Streets are the lifeblood and arteries of great American cities. Great streets not only foster civic pride and distinction, but can serve as cornerstones of economic development. As cities strive to compete in a global economy, too often they find that entrenched street design standards and practices limit their capacity to speed their buses, improve quality of life, and make streets safe, comfortable, and enjoyable for bicyclists and pedestrians.
