Member FAQ
Who can become a NACTO member?
NACTO membership is open to:
- Transportation and public works departments and agencies in all U.S. cities
- Transportation departments and agencies in Canadian and Mexican cities with a population of 300,000 or more
- Transit agencies that operate in a member city
Can I become a member as an individual even if my agency is not a member?
NACTO membership is only open to government agencies.
Are there multiple types of memberships?
NACTO’s membership types and associated dues are based on population. All of NACTO’s member types have access to the same resources, except for some privileges reserved for Full Members. Full Members participate in NACTO’s Governance Committee, which sets NACTO Policy and approves NACTO’s annual work plan.
Our members are divided into the following categories:
- Full Member: U.S. City population over 400,000 and metro area population over 2 million
- U.S. City Affiliate Member (Large): City population over 300,000
- U.S. City Affiliate Member (Medium): City population between 150,000 and 300,000
- U.S. City Affiliate Member (Small): City population 50,000 to 150,000
- U.S. City Affiliate Member (Small City Peers): City population under 50,000
- International City Affiliate Member (Large): City population over 900,000 and metro area population over 2 million
- International City Affiliate Member (Medium): City population between 300,000 and 900,000
- Transit Agency Affiliate Member (Large): City population over 300,000
- Transit Agency Affiliate Member (Medium): City population between 150,000 and 300,000
How much does it cost to be a NACTO member?
NACTO member dues support program delivery, funding the development of cutting-edge street design guides, peer learning programs, technical assistance, and advocacy efforts that help cities build safer, more sustainable, and more equitable transportation systems. Member dues are based on member type.
