Setting Safe Speeds on City Streets

Setting Safe Speeds on City Streets

If you’re ready to step through the process of setting contextually-appropriate speed limits on city streets, then this is the workshop for you. Join NACTO and international city staff for a workshop based on NACTO’s City Limits and upcoming Safe Speeds design guide. During the workshop, you’ll learn about each publication’s technical guidance then apply it to sample streets, both as a full group and in breakouts with a NACTO facilitator. Participants will work in teams to set a target speed, then adjust street design and operations to manage driving speeds.

Attendees will:
– Analyze conflict and density data to develop a contextually-appropriate speed limit and speed management goal
– Learn best-practice and emerging techniques for speed management, including: geometric design, signal operations techniques, and urban streets of various sizes and roles, such as major multilane streets, two-lane corridors with competing needs, and downtown one-way streets
– Apply these techniques on a sample street

Wednesday, December 9
8:00 AM ET | 5:00 AM PT

If you’re a full convening participant who has registered for this workshop, you can access the join link in your virtual event lobby.

Select recordings will be available to the public in January.

This workshop is eligible for 2 AICP CM credits.
