Frequently Asked Questions
» How can I purchase NACTO Design Guides, or check my recent order?
You can purchase our guides online from our publisher, Island Press. NACTO staff does not handle sales of our guides. Contact Island Press here for inquiries about guide and e-book purchases.
» Can I get an e-book or PDF of your Guides?
Our publisher, Island Press, has our Guides available for purchase in e-book format on their website. Note that these e-books have usage restrictions and cannot be printed. Please contact Island Press here for more information about e-books.
The full content of all our guides is also available in web format, free on our website.
The Global Street Design Guide is available for PDF download from the Global Designing Cities website.
» Can I use your graphics for my publication?
For non-commercial use, we’re happy to allow use of our photos, renderings, and other graphics, with credit given to NACTO. Due to our agreement with our publisher, no more than 10 images may be used per guide for this purpose. Please email us for permission to use a larger number of images or for commercial use of our images.
Please also include the name of the publication the graphic is taken from when space allows (e.g. “Credit: NACTO Urban Bikeway Design Guide”). See our Flickr page and our photo library to access high-res images.
» Can you help me with my company’s or city’s project?
As a membership organization of city governments, we unfortunately don’t have the resources to review project plans or provide free legal interpretations or technical assistance to non-member entities. In particular, questions about specific projects are difficult for us to assess without a thorough understanding of the site.
Staff at NACTO member cities are welcome to contact NACTO staff directly for issues with projects within their jurisdictions.
» Can I post my city’s job opening on your website?
We’re happy to post job openings relevant to NACTO’s mission on our careers page for free, at our discretion. City transportation departments and related organizations should email job postings to [email protected]. Please include a URL linking directly to the specific job posting, and the closing date if applicable.
» How can I become a NACTO Certified Trainer?
Certified Trainers are consultants we have dealt with extensively in the creation of our design guides or in past capacities as city staff. New trainers are invited by NACTO; we are not accepting new applications for Certified Trainers at this time.
» I have a suggestion/found a mistake in one of your guides.
It happens! Email us and let us know so we can make the next edition of our guides even better.
