New York and Chicago Transportation Commissioner appointments announced

On the eve of 2014, New York City Mayor-elect Bill de Blasio and Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel both announced their respective appointments for transportation commissioner. Polly Trottenberg, current Under Secretary for Policy at the U.S. Department of Transportation,  will assume the post of NYC Transportation Commissioner beginning in January. Rebekah Scheinfeld, current Chief Planning Officer and Senior Vice President at the Chicago Transit Authority, will become Commissioner of the Chicago Department of Transportation, a post vacated by Gabe Klein’s departure in late November 2013. Together, they bring extraordinary leadership and tremendous experience to their positions and are expected to continue the progress that both cities have made as models of sustainable urban transportation policy and implementation.
