NACTO Member cities are working together to expand best bikeway design practices across the country. Sister Cities Roadshows offer an opportunity for Affiliate Member cities to come together with other nearby mid- and small-sized cities, where lessons learned can be shared through peer-to-peer presentations and a NACTO Urban Bikeway Design Guide training. Both city staff and advocates participate in this two-day event, which also includes a bikeway tour and a group design charrette.
A typical Sister City event is a 2-day event including short peer city presentations, a NACTO Urban Bikeway Design Training, an infrastructure tour, group design charrette, sponsor product demos and evening social event. 5–7 sister cities, 3–5 vendors, a local bicycling advocate organization, and NACTO staff typically participate. Many city staff use this opportunity to connect with their counterparts from peer cities while learning about NACTO member benefits, bikeway design guidance, and the latest products offered by sponsors.
