Sam D. Zimbabwe is the Acting Chief of Project Delivery, a new position in DDOT that brings together planning, traffic engineering, transit, and capital projects. Equipped with a wealth of experience in urban design, bicycle and pedestrian planning and urban ecology, Mr. Zimbabwe guides DDOT’s development of the District’s multi-modal transportation network. Previously, Sam served as the Associate Director of DDOT’s Policy, Planning & Sustainability Administration (PPSA).
Zimbabwe holds a Master’s in City Planning in urban design from the University of California, Berkley and a Bachelor’s in Urban and Regional Studies from Cornell University.
Before coming to DDOT, Zimbabwe was the director of the Center for Transit-Oriented Development at Reconstructing America where he led planning and technical analysis projects focused on transit and transit-oriented development with local and national philanthropic foundations and public agencies around the country. Zimbabwe also has experience as an urban designer Community Design + Architecture and Van Meter Williams Pollack in the San Francisco Bay Area.
