Nathan Wilkes is responsible for the planning, design and implementation of active transportation facilities in Austin Texas and works in the Austin Transportation Department in the Active Transportation Program.  Over the past nine years with the City he has helped Austin become a national leader in innovative planning, street design and bicycle network buildout with a focus on all ages and abilities. He has also helped build one of the most sustained and large scale street retrofit programs in the nation and improve bicycling barriers, integrated on- and off-street networks. He has been an active contributor in moving forward national best practice through a number of efforts including the NACTO Cities for Cycling Initiative and the People for Bikes Green Lane Project.
