Doug is the president of Farr Associates, a Chicago-based firm of optimistic architects and urban designers who plan and design lovable, aspirational buildings and places. The firm was named 2012 Chicago Firm of the Year by the American Institute of Architects. Under his leadership, Farr Associates has designed and certified a total of seven LEED Platinum buildings (two of which also achieve net-zero energy) and four LEED-ND Developments. A native Detroiter, Doug was the founding chair of the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED-ND Core Committee and has served on the boards of urban sustainability organizations including the Congress for New Urbanism, Bioregional, EcoDistricts, and Elevate Energy. Doug is the author of Sustainable Urbanism, and has a new book, Sustainable Nation: Urban Design Patterns for the Future, coming out in late 2017.
