Allison Arieff is Editorial Director of the urban planning and policy think tank, SPUR. She is a contributing columnist for the New York Times and writes about design, architecture and cities for numerous other publications including CityLab, the MIT Technology Review and Dialogue. Arieff lectures and consults regularly on architecture, design, and media. From 2002 to 2006, she was Editor in Chief of Dwell (and was the magazine’s founding senior editor), which won the National Magazine Award for General Excellence in 2005 under her tenure. Arieff began her editorial career in book publishing with stints at Random House, Oxford University Press, and Chronicle Books, where she edited numerous titles on design and culture, including Airstream: A History of the Land Yacht and Hatch Show Print: A History of the Great American Poster Shop. She is author of the books Prefab, Trailer Travel: A Visual History of Mobile America, and Spa.
