Wylie Bearup is the Director of the Phoenix Street Transportation Department. He is a skilled engineer and has played a vital role in Phoenix’s most notable construction projects, including downtown centerpieces like the Phoenix Convention Center, ASU’s Walter Cronkite School of Journalism, and Mass Communication and the Sheraton Downtown Phoenix Hotel.
Bearup has more than 37 years of public works experience with both the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) and the city of Phoenix. His professional experience focuses on managing all facets of engineering/architectural design and construction for a broad array of major projects. In his current role, Bearup oversees the city’s procurement of engineers, architects and contractors for the city’s $5 billion 5-year capital improvement program and runs the department responsible for construction and upkeep of Phoenix’s 5,000 miles of roads, more than 1,075 signalized intersections and 95,000 street lights.
He has recently been recognized as a national Top 10 Leader of 2013 by the American Public Works Association.
