Tarun Kumar is a Senior Research Scientist for Smarter Planet Analytics Solutions at Industry Solution Research Department in IBM Research.  Tarun has 15 year experience is defining, architecting, building and deploying analytics solutions. His work has spanned across industries like supply chain, federal government, city & municipal governments and IBM business units. His experience enables him to provide insights to a broad set of IBM customers about potential use of analytics to make better business decisions.

His areas of focus and expertise include Mathematical Modeling, Stochastic Optimization, Math Programming and Big Data Analytics. His recent focus is in the area of Smarter Planet where he has built products to enable better decision making using analytics & optimization for planning, scheduling and emergency management.

He is inventor on 13 patents. His work has won Daniel H Wagner prize for excellence in operations research. He is a member of INFORMS (Institute of Operations Research and Management Sciences) and has extensively presented at conferences and has been a chair at numerous sessions.
