Richard Steinberg is CEO of DriveNow (USA), a flexible, premium car sharing program from BMW introduced to the U.S. market in San Francisco, exclusively featuring BMW ActiveE electric vehicles. DriveNow is designed to be as convenient as having your own car. Customers can take a drive on their own terms with more flexibility than traditional car renting programs. To sign up, customers simply locate a car online or with the DriveNow app, register, and they’re on their way. They can keep the car for as long as they like. When they’re done, they simply return it to any DriveNow Station.
Previously, Steinberg served as the Manager, Electric Vehicle Operations and Strategy at BMW of North America. In this capacity, he was responsible for leadership of the BMW Group Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) programs in the US market including the MINI E, the BMW ActiveE and the upcoming i brand (i3 and i8) vehicle programs.
Steinberg has held positions as Manager of Product Strategy and Program Manager for MINI USA; National Marketing Manager for BMW Financial Services; and various positions at Nissan Motor Corporation where he began his automotive career in 1984.
Steinberg received a Bachelor’s of Arts Degree in Economics from Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut.
