Nathan Wilkes is responsible for the planning, design and implementation of active transportation facilities and works in the Austin Transportation Department. Over the past 12 years with the City he has helped Austin become a national leader in innovative planning, street design and bicycle network buildout with a focus on all ages and abilities. He also led the building one of the most sustained and large-scale street retrofit programs in the nation which is now resourced by the $720 million 2016 Mobility Bond. He has been an active contributor in moving forward national best practice through a number of efforts including the NACTO Cities for Cycling Initiative and the People for Bikes Green Lane and Big Jump Projects.
