In 2019 Naomi started her planning and engagement firm, Naomi Iwasaki Consulting. She has since supported community organizations and public agencies with projects and initiatives centering marginalized communities and implementing transportation equity with change management strategies.
Prior to that she worked as Deputy Director of Investing in Place, a Los Angeles-based transportation policy and equity nonprofit where she managed strategic partnerships, policy staff, and organization grant writing. She also served as the Director of Neighborhood Services and Great Streets in the Office of Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, overseeing eight City departments and the Great Streets Initiative, and at Community Health Councils (CHC), analyzing transportation and transit-oriented development policies to advocate for improved health and mobility access for residents of South Los Angeles. A native of Los Angeles, Naomi also lived and worked in New York City for eight years. There she worked as the Planning & Operations Coordinator at the New York City Department of Transportation Bicycle Program, managing bicycle implementation projects and community planning initiatives.
She holds a Master’s Degree in Urban Planning from New York University and dual Bachelor’s Degrees in Ethnic Studies and Social Welfare from UC Berkeley.
