Merisa Gilman was inspired to become a transportation planner through her interest in public art and is motivated by New York City’s ever-evolving use of public space. As a Senior Project Manager in the Pedestrian Projects Group at the New York City Department of Transportation, Merisa has successfully implemented various projects to improve safety and efficiency for NYC’s pedestrians, cyclists and drivers, including the rubber island demonstration project and neighborhood traffic circles. Merisa is also the Director of the Enhanced Crossing Program, which reviews and implements new crossings at uncontrolled locations throughout the City.
