In July 2014, Al was named the FHWA Texas Division Administrator. As a key member of the Agency management team, Al exercises executive direction over the $3.2 B annual Federal-aid apportionment to Texas, one of the largest and most complex Federal-aid programs in the Nation. As Division Administrator, he leads a multidisciplinary staff of 50 professionals in Austin to provide guidance to state and local funding recipients unified in the primary objective of remaining a relevant partner in Texas while advancing national transportation goals.
Before this appointment, Al served as the Deputy Division Administrator for the Texas Division Office. He has been with FHWA for 25 years. Al served FHWA in multiple capacities in several field offices as well as Washington, DC Headquarters.
Al is a graduate of the FHWA Highway Engineer Training Program. He received a BS in Civil Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Worcester, Massachusetts, and is a graduate of the AASHTO National Transportation Leadership Institute. He and his wife Susan have 3 children between 4 and 11 years old.
