Last month, the Federal Transit Administration requested suggestions for updates to its Capital Investment Grants Policy Guidance. The CIG program helps transit agencies fund big projects, including the Blue Line Extension in Minneapolis and bus rapid transit in greater Charleston, SC. The policy guidance includes the process by which the FTA considers agencies for funding and the ways grantees are held accountable for project success.
NACTO member agencies have direct experience working within the CIG program to deliver projects for their communities, but that money often comes with unnecessary bureaucratic barriers and red tape.
A simpler process is needed to improve project delivery and create significant cost savings for taxpayers.
NACTO and its members look forward to conversations with the FTA about the CIG program and other ways the administration can help improve project delivery.
