Training: How to Design Multimodal Streets for All Users

This training is part of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities Sustainable Communities Conference and will be led by Kate Whitfield and NACTO Certified Trainer Tim Gustafson of Alta Planning.

This training session will help urban and rural municipalities make their streets safer, more livable and economically vibrant. Drawing on design guides produced by the National Association of City Transportation Officials, NACTO-certified trainers will discuss how to:

  • Design streets and intersections for all users (pedestrians, cyclists, transit riders and drivers).
  • Integrate cycling and transit lanes into existing roadways.

Participants will work together to tackle a street design challenge in Ottawa and will share their solutions through group presentations and discussions.
