NACTO and TransitCenter are thrilled to work with the City of Indianapolis and IndyGo to advance transit-supportive street design strategies and implementations, beginning with this first Transit Program Accelerator Roadshow.
Over two intensive days, Department of Public Works and IndyGo staff worked with leading practitioners from peer cities to develop staff capacity, learn about cutting-edge street design and operations strategies, and put knowledge into action to transform East Michigan Street into a neighborhood transit street that can be a model for other projects in Indianapolis and beyond.
Local support for transforming East Michigan Street— currently a one-way along with East New York Street to its south—into a two-way street makes this a project with great potential. The Roadshow brought together community stakeholders, who lended their experience and vision for the street, in addition to having an opportunity to learn about best practices in transit street design.
Finally, on Tuesday at noon, the public was invited to join us as we shared the ideas formulated during the workshop, and look towards the next steps towards making these visions reality.
