Great Rivers Chicago – Reconnecting Chicago and our Rivers

The Chicago River has undergone tremendous change over the past few decades, and more transformation is happening as we speak. The river is being embraced more and more for recreation, real estate development, commerce and habitat. The results of just the past few years are staggering – the award-winning Riverwalk, new Park District boathouses, huge increases in kayaking and water taxi usage, while maintaining the river as a transportation corridor for heavy freight. This tour by boat will explore how these opportunities and challenges are being planned and managed, how the Our Great Rivers vision ties them together, and what’s to come, particularly in terms of river trail planning and land use policy. Get ready for a day on the water!
