Tour the site of the Downtown Station, which serves as the terminus for the existing MetroRail Red Line. Learn about the trials and tribulations involved with the design and construction of the small temporary station, and an emerging plan to expand it into major multimodal terminal that also becomes an attractive “people place.” The high ridership on the MetroRail system, and the demand for increased service, has led to a current project to redefine and upgrade the Downtown Station, in context of implementing the Downtown Austin Plan. Learn about the debate over how to balance transit-station goals with the needs of the existing street network.
