Transportation provides access to opportunity, from jobs and education to community services. To date, most cities have focused on ensuring access to mobility services: do people have reliable, safe, convenient transportation options nearby? But access and equity in how people pay for those transportation options are also critical and often overlooked, concerns. How—and how much—residents pay to access public and private mobility services, including shared micromobility, transit, and parking meters, profoundly influences how they choose to get around.
We will explore this topic on Thursday, August 6, at 3pm ET/noon PT. This session will be led by Lily Shoup and Annalise Czerny, based on their financial equity work at Rebel. They will highlight programs and partnerships cities can use, such as:
- Bank partnerships to help folks open a bank account if they don’t have one, so they can pay for mobility services
- Automated eligibility verification to streamline the application process and get folks mobility benefits more quickly
- Prepaid cards to subsidize transit, bike share, Amtrak, and TNCs for targeted affordability
- Secured cards to distribute mobility subsidies while helping folks improve their credit score
- Rewards and free transfers between mobility providers to increase connectivity
This event is only open to staff at NACTO member agencies. Member agency staff can find registration details on our community forum.
