Photos: Urban Bikeway Design Guide Book Launch

Jan 10, 2025

Several hundred city transportation staff, state and federal officials, advocates, private-sector consultants, and more gathered on Tuesday to celebrate the release of the third edition of the NACTO Urban Bikeway Design Guide!

The evening book launch, co-hosted by Barco Products and TYLin, took place during the TRB Annual Meeting in Washington, D.C.

As attendees spent the evening connecting, they had the chance to get the very first looks at the guide–shipped overnight right from the printing press. The guide–doubled in size from the second edition–reflects the new practices that have emerged in bikeway design, policy, and practice over the past decade.

A working group of over 150 individuals employed at more than 60 municipalities and transit agencies in the United States and Canada helped create the guide, ensuring that the guidance works for cities of all sizes and street types–and for all environments.

“We don’t just work for cities, we are the cities,” said NACTO President Mike Carroll at the event. “We represent what cities can do and how cities deliver. And cities are delivering. Cities are delivering on access to opportunity, access to humanity, access to quality of life, access to learning. New horizons for the public are opening up every day because of the work we do to help people of all ages and abilities to get around town.”

Thanks especially to our event sponsors for making this celebration possible:
