Sexton joins visionary leaders representing Columbus, Philadelphia, Portland OR, Los Angeles, and Somerville MA
The National Association of City Transportation Officials (NACTO)–an association of 100 cities and transit agencies across North America–today announced the unanimous election of Tim Sexton, Minneapolis Public Works Director, to the organization’s board. Michael Carroll, Deputy Managing Director for Philadelphia’s Office of Transportation and Infrastructure Systems, and Laura Rubio-Cornejas, General Manager of the Los Angeles Department of Transportation, were unanimously re-elected as the board’s President and Vice President, respectively.

“The strength of the NACTO network lies in the shared vision, collective expertise, and strong leadership of our member cities,” said Ryan Russo, NACTO Executive Director. “Tim’s leadership—including through recent unprecedented times—and his track record of delivering safe, sustainable, and equitable transportation projects make him an invaluable addition to our board. And with Mike and Laura continuing at the helm, NACTO is better positioned than ever to help cities navigate a shifting federal landscape and deliver the safe, sustainable streets their residents deserve.”
“I am honored to join the NACTO board at such a pivotal moment for our industry and for my home city,” said Tim Sexton, Minneapolis Public Works Director. “Minneapolis is hard at work preparing to welcome the NACTO movement this spring, and I look forward to showcasing how we are embedding equity and resilience into our transportation network. Joining this group of visionary leaders is a chance to help scale what we’ve learned in Minneapolis to cities across North America.”
“Serving as President of NACTO is an enormous privilege, especially as our network grows to represent an increasing number of cities across North America,” said Michael Carroll, Deputy Managing Director of the Philadelphia Office of Transportation and Infrastructure Systems. “Our mission remains urgent: ensuring that every person in our cities has access to a safe, reliable, and equitable transportation system. I am thrilled to continue working alongside such great leaders to advocate for the support at all levels that cities need to succeed.”
“Transportation is about more than movement; it is about providing people with dignity and access to opportunity,” said Laura Rubio-Cornejo, General Manager of the Los Angeles Department of Transportation. “In Los Angeles and across the NACTO network, we are proving that city streets can serve everyone. I am excited to continue my service on the NACTO board and to work with this leadership team to advance a people-first city future.”
“NACTO’s cities are the vanguard of urban transformation,” said Janette Sadik-Khan, NACTO Chair. “This leadership team represents the best of what local government can achieve when we work together to solve the biggest challenges of our time. From the bike networks of Portland and Minneapolis to the transit streets of Columbus, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, and Somerville, we are writing the new playbook for city streets, and I am confident this team will lead us boldly into a new era of city-led innovation.”
