One of the most popular events at our annual Designing Cities Conference, the Meet the Cities poster session gives every NACTO member agency the opportunity to share their projects, successes, and works-in-progress with their peers. Redmond prepared the content below for its 2025 Meet the Cities poster.
Routes to Rails: Connecting the Community to Light Rail
Redmond is the proud home to four new stations along the Sound Transit 2 Line, a new light rail. Connecting the community to these stations through a variety of multimodal transportation investments has been a high priority for the City. Some of these projects include:
- Proactive transportation demand management outreach and incentives
- Public-private partnerships with partners such as Microsoft to build pedestrian and bicycle bridges for better station access and regional trail connections
- New shared use paths and separated bike lanes
- Extension of the Redmond Central Connector Trail to complete Redmond’s portion of the Eastrail, a 42-mile regional trail, and connect to the downtown light rail station
- Designated parking for shared e-mobility scooters/bikes at new light rail stations

New separated bike lanes and shared-use paths have been built to connect Redmond’s Urban Centers with light rail.

A new covered pedestrian and bike bridge over State Route 520 connects a regional trail and Microsoft’s west campus to the Redmond Technology Station.
Safer Streets Redmond
The City of Redmond prioritizes transportation safety and is taking proactive steps to encourage more walking, biking, and transit use by making its streets safer and more comfortable for active users. Collaboration between the planning and public works departments, as well as the police and fire departments, has yielded:
- Completion and adoption of a Safer Streets Action Plan
- Community Road Safety Assessment to better understand concerns and needs
- Speed study to determine where and how vehicle speed limits can be adjusted to increase safety
- Implementation of adaptive signals and pedestrian scrambles in key pedestrian areas
- Public safety campaigns surrounding safe driving habits
- Planning and construction of more separated bikeways

Updated crosswalk markings and vehicle barriers create safer crossings and more aware drivers in the Downtown pedestrian priority zone.

Many features, such as adaptive signals, pedestrian scrambles, and traffic calming, have increased community safety along Cleveland Street in Downtown Redmond.
