States have enormous influence on our transportation system, managing the majority of transportation dollars. Federal transportation law allocates the lion’s share of federal funding to state departments of transportation via formulas. States also raise a significant amount of their own transportation funds. Cities, which own the majority of the nation’s streets and roads, stand to benefit from stronger formal and informal relationships with their state counterparts.
We’re excited to feature Adie Tomer and Ben Swedberg of the Brookings Institution at our November 18 policy meeting. They’ll share their research and recommendations for improving the state-local partnership, and we’ll discuss how NACTO might incorporate their work into our policy platform.
This event is only open to staff at NACTO member agencies. Member agency staff can find information on registering for the meeting on our member forum, here.
