Massachusetts Micromobility Recommendations: A Conversation with MassDOT

Apr 28, 2026 @ 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm ET (1-2 pm PT)

Micromobility continues to transform city transportation. Despite its proliferation and popularity, micromobility still exists amongst a patchwork of state and local laws and regulations—confounding riders, limiting data collection, and complicating street design decisions. We need a new approach.

The Massachusetts Special Commission on Micromobility, supported by the Lab @ MassDOT, took up the topic over the last year, resulting in a set of recommendations that reframe and course-correct for the continued growth of micromobility. Recommendations for legislative and regulatory changes, including a speed-based classification schema for known and future devices, were submitted to the state legislature.

MassDOT’s Kris Carter and Jaclyn Youngblood will share the Special Commission’s work and recommendations with NACTO’s members. We’ll leave plenty of time for questions.

This event is only open to staff at NACTO member agencies. Member agency staff can access registration details on our community forum.
